Default foam cylinders for parachute flies

Sometimes it is easier to use foam cylinders instead of CDC or polypropylene:

Superb flies mate but where do you get the posts small enough for 16,s without trimming thicker material, would be good on sedges in the dark at least you would know they are floating

Foam is very easy to use for parachutes- I do this myself very often, you get a very secure and good looking hackle for not much effort at all. Well reccomended for those who would like to try there hand at a parachute hackle. BTW very nice tyings and sbs lucian, as always!

Hi All

I had some foam cylinders for making foam ants, you can make flies down to around 18# with them, always make your own.

To produce your own foam posts in a range of sizes, take an old telescopic radio aerial, separate the sections, and sharpen the leading edge of each one with a file.
Then select the section corresponding to the post you require and screw it through a foam block to remove a core of the desired size.
The screwing motion is important so that the sharpened edge of the aerial cuts through the foam. If you simply try to push straight through the foam will be torn, rather than cut, and will be useless.
When you have finished, reassemble to aerial for handy storage.
Cheers,
Angus

i'm guessing they'd work well when fishing the trio and anyone know of an online shop that may sell them or a forum member who may sell me a couple?
