Default Apps on Steriods

I seen Craig Barr do this pattern on a fishing magazine, so I thought I would give a go.

Goodness me, It has accounted for most of my fish this year. Any water, any place any time. Ask Highlander, or Frankie G the success of this pattern and they will tell you!

Size 12 Tmc 9300, or whatever you like to use
4 Strands of flexi floss, or Span Flex
Superglue Gel, NOT THE OTHER STUFF. The gel is flexible to a certain extent, whereas the other stuff isn't.
Bobbin Threader
6 red beads from any haberydashery shop

Step 1
Thread beads through the threader

Step 2
Put 2 strand of Flexi Floss through the threader as well, and pull the beads over the floss

Step 3
Take your hook and holding it by the eye start to thread the beads on to the hook shank

Until it looks like so

Step 4
Fix the hook in the vice

Step 5
Seperate beads 3 and 4 to expose the shank
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 6
Take a piece of floss and using an overhand knot attach it to the hook
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 7
Apply a spot of superglue and push bead 4 up against bead 3
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 8
Push bead 5 up against bead 4 and again expose the shank and apply another spot of glue
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 9
Push the last bead hard up against bead 5 and leave to dry
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 10
Take your last piece of floss and using an overhand knot, put it on top of the floss on bead 3. Pull it tight and it will secure itself
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 11
You want the legs to remain quite long as this will give it movement in the water. To short and you will lose the effect that you want to create.

Thats it. Job done. No thread used!

When a fish takes this it will be done in 2 ways. 1st way will be like a sip, as you retrieve you will feel your line going tight as if you have hit some weed. Just lift the rod and the fish is on.
2nd type of take is the fish will hammer it. If it does, hold on

I will vouch for it's catching ability, can be fished buzzer/nymph style on a floating line or on an intermediate slowly retrieved, it works for me anyway!

Tight Lines,

You'd be surprized. Trust me. Especially in stillwaters, where there are silty beds, or no silty beds

If Highlander and Frankie G see this they may vouch for it.

As far as I am led to believe, the Trout see this as a bundle of Bloodworm/Midge Pupae, all tangled up as they make their way to the surface to hatch. Hence the reason to keep the legs long to give movement in the water.

Because the fly virually has no weight, it does take its time sinking to the bottom. Therefore you can say it hangs in the water columns alot longer. A slow figure of eight retrieve with the odd twitch will give the impression of them making their way to the surface.

Send me a Pm and I will pop some goody's in the post for you, if you want.

Rgds

As a begginer to this fly fishing and tying mullarkey that looks like an excellnent one to try out.

Im still not up to my ticket limit on my club and the fishing has gone very slow lately.

Great looking fly with plenty of movement.

How long do you have the legs?

Neil.

PS Peter Appleby is created with invented the pattern hence the 'Apps' bloodworm. He used it to good effect last year at Elinor.
Credit where credit is due!

Kyp,
Great looking fly. Think Josh will want to have a go at this. Looks like even I could manage it.
