Default CDC Dun - mach1 ( bad photography)

Thread: Colour to match Body - make sure the thread is multiply and can easily be split

Tails: Microfibetts or Cock Hackle
Body: Fine Dubbing to match natural , Wapsi Superfine is excellent
Wing: CDC
Needle required to split thread
Bulldog clip to hold CDC fibres.

This is my first attempt, rushed, poor lighting, porr background and only two hands

Form a level base of thread up to a point level with the barb , at this point form a little ball of dubbing or thread. Take the microfibetts/cock hackles, lay on top of hook and run thread back to eye and backup to the little ball.

Dub the thread and wind on forming a nice thin tapered body stopping about 1/3 of total distance from end start of body to the eye.

Take 3 CDC feathers - preferably ones with good long fibres and lay them on top of each other, stroke the fibres so that they stand out from the stem.

Catch the fibres in the bulldog clip and cut along the stems keeping as clode to the stems as possible.

Spin the thread to make it lie flat, stroking with fingers helps this - insert needle in thread just under hook shank - and open a loop long enough to take the bulldog clip. Insert bulldog clip into hook catching the CDC fibres with the thread. Remove the bulldog clip. This proved to be impossible to photgraph with only two hands ( asked my wife to help, but she declined saying I was bonkers and off she went to watch "I'm a celebrity get me out of here" - now who's more bonkers ?) For a good demo of splitting the thread and spinning look at these videos http://www.flyfisherman.com/ftb/kbvideos/

Spin the thread to tighten the loop.

Wrap the spun CDC loop at a single point at the end of the body, when finished stroke the CDC upwards and make thread wraps aroung the base to hold it in position. If you want you can dub the thorax area.

Wing on above is too far forward - my tieing suffered with the pressure of trying to use the camera and get it done quickly

some other finished flies

and decision time, do i take the dun, the emerger, or the spinner

apologies for the quality of pics, I can only get better at this.

loved the last pix otter, it that a Ballina blue trout sitting in its plug hole lie?

Liked the flies, still trying to work out the step where you create the 'CDC rope', looks good though

Nice one easky,

The pics are fine to mate, I wouldn't worry about that.

Ps That Plug Hole Blue looks hungry
