Thanks Dougie. I think it's an often overlooked interpretation of what can e done with a hares mask. It really floats well too - and catches fish of course.

That's the sort of fly I reallly like to use, scruffy but very "buggy".

That's really interesting - the simplicity of this fly seems really appealing. Once you've managed to split thread, it becomes very easy a tie. If you happen to have problems with splitting the thread you can help it with a dubbing lop.

top post mate,
try rubbing the dubbing in your fingers and rolling onto the thread, the oils of your hand should be just as good as wax, and alot faster too

Thanks mate. Yes, that is an option for the body. I use wax when I touch dub. This gives very bugy bodies. Speed is not an issue with a 3-minute fly

The split thread was referring to the "hackle" substitute with guard hair.

thats a good fly im sure you will catch alot on it, the dubbing lop looks good and thanks for letting me know about it im going to use them from know onwards because its easier looking to do and place dubbing onto the body.
good pictures aswell and good pattern
test the fly and let me know how it works
