I've never tried posting a SBS before, but this fly is proving so deadly, and is so quick and easy to tie that I couldn't resist having a go. Hope you find it useful, sorry about the shadowy photographs.....
Epoxy Bidoz Bug.
Hook: Scorpion super grub 12-16.
Thread: Any suitable. I've used 16/0 cinnamon here.
Rib: Green wire.
Tail: Dyed olive cock pheasant.
Dubbing: Roughly dubbed hare in front of Masterclass 10 (rhyac).
Body: Tungsten bidoz body 7-9mm to match hook size.
Shellback: 5 minute epoxy.
Sequence:
1. Run on your thread and catch in 3-4 pheasant fibres and your wire rib. Try to avoid neccessary bulk at this stage.
2. Loosely dub the body back toward the eye, leaving enough room for the thorax area.
3. Dub on the hares ear thorax and park the thread. Tease the loose fibres downwards towards the hook point.
4. Now take your bidoz body. They are grooved underneath to slot over the hook (that's why the dressing needs to be kept fairly thin). Run a bead of superglue into this groove and pop the body onto the hook, pressing down for a few seconds to ensure it has stuck.
5. Take the wire and work it up the body, using the depressions to space the rib evenly. Lash it down behind the head and wiggle the wire gently to break it. Dub on a little more hare if required, whip finish and apply a drop of thin cement to the head.
6. You could finish here if you want, but I've found the rib can be susceptible to breaking after a few fish, so I've now started applying a thin shellback of epoxy to the fly to protect the rib. I reckon it's just about bullet proof now......until you snag up and lose it in the stones!
And that's it. Get a team of small ones rigged up and go hammer those grayling!
