This is my first attempt at a Step-by-step,I have chose this fly as it has been fishing well for me lately,and just about every water has buzzers somewhere around.I would like to credit the originator of this fly,a very nice guy called Davie Mcphail,who,I have studied his fly tying sequences on you-tube.
Materials needed:-
Kamasan B100 size 10-16
I have used UTC thread 140 in black
veniard clear ultralace 'standard' size
orange dyed goose biots
sharpie permanent pens -black and hot orange.

Run the thread down in line with point of hook.

Using the hot orange marker pen 'colour' the hook 3-4 mm all the way around it.This gives the illusion of blood flowing to the wing buds,at point of hatching.

Take the thread back towards the eye,pick up the ultralace and give it a good stretch,it will get to a point where it won't stretch anymore,tie this in at the eye and wind down to the edge of the thread.

Wind the tubing down the hook shank in touching turns keeping quite a bit of pressure and stretch in it.

Once you arrive at the curve of the hook,use the black pen and run the tip along the top edge of the ultralace tubing,this will end up forming the rib.



Using even turns wind the tubing/rib back up to where the thread starts,secure and snip the tubing just behind the eye,wind the thread up and back down to this point.

Select two goose biots and tie them in by the tips,and at a slight upward angle.



Wind the thread up to the eye and back down to form a thorax,then return the thread to 3-4mm behind the eye,pull the goose biots forward so they sit just over the eye and tie down.



Make a neat head and whip finish,then give the whole fly a coat of varnish,let dry completely then add one or two more coats as need be.

A very clever pattern. A great technique for showing the translucency of a live insect. Also a great SBS. Very impressed, never seen this before. Thanks Cowie.

Thanks but as I said Davie Mcphail takes the credit for the pattern I just copied it,but the translucency is very good and all you need is different coloured pens to give all the options.

What is the varnish you use?

Davie Mcphail have great flies on youtube.

I just use bog standard clear cellire varnish,2 or 3 coats but let each one dry completely.

Thats a very nice buzzer and clear SBS....

Nice looking tying but i think it would look even better tyed on B100 nickel hooks (just a thought).
