ok this is my first SBS so you'll have to forgive me if i miss anything off.
ive tied this pattern for a while and it has a nice glide that the pike seem to like
heres a list of materials:
clear mono thread but ive also used uni fluoro 1/0 successfully
size 4/0 hook i like sakuma manta 540
H2O off white flash n slinky
H2O sf flash blend in white and olive
orange or red slinky material here i'm using piketrek body fibre in extreme uv orange
pearl mylar tubing
holographic fish gills (not essential but finish it off nicely)
10mm epoxy eyes
epoxy of some sort, mr bond uv resin in this case
take a piece of mylar tubing slightly longer than the hook shank and tie in 1/2" of an inch down the hook shank
take a length of flash n slinky i like to tie these between 5 and 6", this forms the tail
take a full length of white sf blend and fold in half trimming off the fold and tie in underneath to form the belly
tie in some orange or red so it roughly touches the hook bend
take a length of olive sf blend and fold in half trimming of the fold then tie in
take another length of olive and tie it in so it sits approx 1" shorter than the tail
fold the excess back and press down with your thumb to spley out the fibres to build the shoulders of the perch
take a lighter and flash it over any straggly ends taking care not to melt your thread then superglue and finish off with a whip finish
trim the olive to taper nicely again about 1" shorter than the tail, trim the belly if required though theres less bulk so its normally ok, trim the tail nice and square
colour about 3/4" of the tail in red and add some perch barred markings
seperate a few fibres from the back and tint them with your black marker
you should now have something that resembles this
now epoxy on some fish gills, 3d eyes and build the head up with your chosen epoxy
then go have some fun and catch a few pike, tight lines and screaming reels
