Default Micro Duns for Grayling

This fly is one of my favorite dry flies when fishing for big grayling and trout in September, October and November. I used it also in December on San river in Poland and I caught a lot of grayling and trout in the middle of the day when temperature rises at 2-3Celsius degrees. It's very easy to tie and highly recommended in this period when the sun warms the surface of the water.

Materials:
Hook: Maruto Dohitomi D04 size #18-20
Thread: UTC 70Denier
Body: UTC yellow and olive mixed
Tail: 3-4bars of Coq de Leon - Indio Claro
Wing:Khaki CDC one or two feathers.

Great looking fly Lucian.

A quick question - How do you mix the yellow and olive thread - is it a layer of yellow and then a layer of olive?

thanks

Yes, I use yellow for making the body and the last layer is olive. If I need more olive I use two layers
Usually the body of these small flies have two or three tones: from yellow to dark olive ( depending if it is male or female ).

cheers

Lovely looking flies, do you have any trouble with the thread body absorbing water and sinking the fly?

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

not at all. There is enough cdc to keep the fly floating.I use Amadou from time to time to dry the flies ( especially after catching a fish ). The shape of the flies is also important. Here is the correct shape of the wing to assure a good floating.
