Default Black Spider & Peacock

I put this up on the UKFlyDressing Board the other day, thought ye might get some use for it, its basically a simple palmered black spider with a peacock herl thorax, nothing new really, but I reckon it will take a few fish.

Hook: Kamasan B160, size 12 used here.
Thread: Benecchi 12/0 black.
Body: Benecchi 12/0 black.
Thorax: Peacock Herl.
Hackle: Starling.

1: Mount the hook, run the thread down the shank to near the bend and back to about two thirds of the body.

2: Tie in the peacock herl and run the thread back to the eye, snap off the waste herl.

3: Prepare a feather from a starlings wing, see below. Strip the fibers from one side of the feather and tie in by the wide end. You want the convex side facing the eye of the hook, so make sure you strip the proper side.

4: Palmer the hackle back to where you tied in the herl and tie off with one or two turns of thread. I find that winding the hackle the same direction as I wind the thread makes it easier to tie down.

5: Twist the herl around the thread.

6: Run both thread and herl through the hackle up to the eye.

7: Untwist the herl from the thread, tie of with a couple of turn of thread, whip finish and that's it.

Cheers.

Murt.

Don't often praise the flies in this section, but that's a stunner!

That kind of makes a mockerry of anything else that takes more than 1 minute and a couple of scraps of material to tie doesn't it ? ...Brilliant.

The simplicity is a key here and it is as as pleasing to us as it is to the fish at the right time. Good stuff.
