I have put together a SBS for you all.

Black Cat Blob

Hook: Hayabusa #6 751
Thread: Red 140 Den UTC
Tail: Dave Downie Velvet Black
Body: Cat Green & Holo 15mm Fritz

1. Catch on in your usual way 5-6 turns is enough, but 2mm from the eye.


2. Prepare a Medium Sized Bunch of Marabou and clear away the flue from the end.


3. Catch in the Tail with a Pinched Loop, not forgeting to pull on the up stroke to ensure it stays on the top of the hook. And bind the tail down to the shank, inline with the barb is my general area.

Please Ignore my exposed flue ops:

4. Prepare your fritz by removing 1/2" of the fritz to expose the core.


5. Offer up the fritz so the beginning of the exposed core is where the tail is tied in.


6.Catch in the fritz, pinched loop again, and bind it down to the place where you started at the eye.


7.After each half turn make sure you stroke the fritz back, slightly dampened finges helps, and after 6 "butted" turns you will see the fritz "sloping" back nicely.


8. Make complete turns up to the eye, then reverse two turns and you should end up with this situation.


9. Bring the thread forward of the fritz, and add a dab of SuperglueGel, then take the fritz and make one final turn and pull down tightly for a few seconds. Trim away the waste fritz which will leave you with this.


10. Stroke back the fritz, moistened fingers again help, and make several turns, ensuring you catch no stray fibres and whip finish. That should hopefully leave you with a neat head and a finished Blob.

I get my materials direct from him, but I know he also sells on ebay, under the guise of Spanflex1.

He's got some cracking stuff on it jnust now. Tell Him I sent ya!

carl i'm a bit confused with the reverse 2 turns.do you tie off first then move forward with the thread.

Nice SBS Carl and a corking blob! I've also been putting Bills holo fritz to good use - I'm anticipating some proper string pulling with those rascals this season .

Yours is an interesting way of finishing off at the head - the results look spot on. I tie upto about 2mm short of the eye and part the fritz when securing it - that way I don't catch in lots of waste fritz that pokes out over the eye and gets in the way. Then I just whip over and form a head as normal.

Perhaps I need to do a SBS to show what I mean

Sorry Jim, it is a bit unclear for a first time read.

I carry on right upto the eye with stroked turns of fritz, then go back two turns, still holding the fritz back.,
(I know it sounds pointless, but It gets me to where I need to be everytime), This leaves me enough space to add the superglue Gel and another turn of fritz and leaves the room for a head and to finish it off neatly.

I have a bit of clear plastic biro tube with a split along it to allow it to be slid over the line and then pushed over the fritx. This then allows me to tie the head as neatly as possible and then singe any stray fibres away before finishing with head cement. Its a bit like 'gilding the lilly' with your fly Carl but it does stop me getting frustrated when I wrap too far, as I often do , with the fritz. Smashing fly, as usual mate.

With apologies for hyjacking Carl's excellent SBS.

But here goes: take a biro with a clear plastic tube and a tapered bit at the pointy end. Take a junior hack saw and carefully, after removing the insides and the ends, saw the tapered bit off ; it leaves you with approx 0.75 cm of tapered plastic. Then using a file or emery paper clean up the sawn end on the little tapered bit. Once this is done , carefully saw a cut , lengthwise through the tapered bit and clean this up as well; job done.

When you come to finish your blob just slide this onto the thread and over the fritz, which then allows you to work unhindered by bits of tinsel and glitter. Once you have whip finished, trim the thread, singe (lightly) the straggly bits left over and remove the plastic bit. Hey - Presto , perfect blob heads every time.
