tie on thread and four strands of pheasant tail for the tail

tie on copper wire and then neon flash

tie in 3/4 strands of pheasant tail

and wrap around the hook to make up the body

fold neon flash over the back of the pheasant tail and tie down and then wrap copper wire around the pheasant tail to secure neon flash and make ribbing effect

dub on hares ear for thorax and then tie off

Really like that. That's my nights entertainment sorted out - tie a handful of those beauties (with the Jam Tarts vs Spurs on in the background).

a great fly ....i tie them on straight hooks rather than curved, but with only a thorax of pearl tinsel.....do people find any difference in success rates ?

i dont know to be honest as i always use b100 grub hooks but will give it a go the way you decribed and let you know how they work out

well i know its late but i am fairly new to this site and i just love these s b s i just know my tying is going to improve and my fish catching skills and have just tied some of these flies but i have used a silver bead my fish seem to prefer them thats all top fly

Cheers flyman im glad that they have helped you in your fly tying skills. As to the bead you can use any colour bead. Silver, gold, red, black etc etc. The fish will be able to see the silver and the flash better in coloured water so you should have a top class fly

Nice fly welsh.

I tie them on curved, straight and jig hooks.

This is one I like to use allot on the taff.

Materials used

Hook - Knapek jig size 8
Bead - 3.5mm Black nickle tungsten
Thread - 8/0 Olive dun uni-thread
Rib - Fine copper wire
Flash - Holo tinsel
Body - 4 fibers from Golden pheasant center tail
Thorax - Small pinch of sooty olive baby seal fur and equal amount of light fur from hears mask ( cheek area )
Thorax cover - Several fibers from pheasant center tail dyed black

Nice fly Edd. I tie the same pattern and normal pt nymphs on the jig hooks too but on a smaller size 14,16 i find works better for me but it all comes down to personal preference i suppose. Do you think it works better upside down ???
