I usually tie these with brown, black or olive thread, also with badger, cree or grizzle hackles.
Works well on stillwaters and rivers.

Hook: Curved, this is Mustad C49S #16
Thread: Any, this is UTC 70.
Hackle of choice, around 2x gape width, you can go longer if you feel the need.
Thorax: Hare's ear, you can omit this or use dubbing of choice.

Start thread and wrap down to how long you want the body, spin thread to cord it (usually clockwise) and wrap back up in open turns to rib.


Make a dubbing loop and hang off parachute gallows, this is over my bobbin holder.


Tie in hackle.


Leaving thread at eye dub lightly, wind to back of dubbing loop and back to just before eye.


Wrap hackle around loop and tie off.


Take loop off holder and tie in with a couple of pinch and loops. Apply varnish/super glue to tie off point now, the durability of this fly depends on how long that tag end stays put.


Pull tag to raise hackle into position, cut off tag end, add a drop more varnish and whip finish.


Gink the hackle and it sits like a good un.

very nice indeed paul. i like the paraloop method a lot.

i've been experimenting with a spent paraloop pattern using foam/floss to split the hackle.

the original usage takes some beating though.

I prefer using these to klinks now, being easier to tie helps also.

have you seen the paraloop flies that incorporate a wing post for visibility?

Spider: The hackle is tied into position with the loop, if the cut tag pulls out the hackle slips off the cut end and unravels. A drop of superglue usually stops it happening though. No need for apologies, you find these things out when you've tied a few and they've unravelled as you pull the hackle back to whip finish.

TWP: I've tried them with the floss sighter, couldn't see it any better so I just use different hackles now, if I lose sight of it I just look for the rise and duck if no resistance is felt when I wallop it. I don't use klinks for the duo method now either, I'm sick of them landing on their sides, only seems to happen with a nymph under it though.

You don't mention it in the instructions, I'm assuming you do it though. When you wind the hackle round the loop you wind it up then back down. You can also compress the hackle by pushing it down the loop.
Have you tried using flexi floss for the hackle post, either single strand or loop.

Yep, up and down.

Not tried flexi floss, tried Globrite no4, couldn't see that any better either, must be my eyes.

I meant the post you form the hackle round, not as a sighter.
