Default Fly tying printouts

There are some excellent step by step fly tying posts in this section of the forum but they don't print out very well. Would it be technically possible to add a "button" to enable a post to be exported, say to a pdf format, so that the post can be easily printed and kept for future reference.

If it is possible, perhaps the membership could indicate whether they would like this feature.

Best regards all
Cutlass

Download and install cute PDF writer, its free. It appears in your printer list, then just print to it. Hey presto SBS in a pdf.

Thanks TonyT but the solution you propose doesn't create the type of documents I mean, you get all the Forum map, banner etc as part of the pdf file.

I'm suggesting getting just the main body of the step by step post
Many thanks anyway

Hi Cutlass,

I agree it would be nice to have a clean pdf record of the SBS's. Not sure of the work involved but would welcome such a facility.

For now I'll have to put up with the clutter.

Cheers
Tony

Hi,

If I want to keep them I just save (often by copy & paste etc) into a word doc then edit to cut out the cr*p. Takes a bit of time but works well.

I agree though - a 'save as' button would make life easier.

If you are using Firefox, get the screengrab add on, you will end up with the icon on the bottom toolbar, you can select what part of the page or full page if you like, and download to your docs. Open the file with Windows Gallery, then zoom in.
You will get the text and photo as well.

Thanks to Roll cast and Doonicus for their work around solutions but don't you think a simple export button would be an improvement to the forum?

I've emailed the editor and never got a reply, I've tried pm to the administrator but he doesn't accept pm's, so I put my post to see if other forum members thought an export button would be useful.

The step by step section would be my favourite area to use the button, but could be equally useful in jokes, rod building, entomology, river and still water sections (especially at holiday planning time). Again, there are some articles in the casting sections that I'd like to keep.

There is a wealth of knowledge and experience of the forum but there is a tendancy for some of the post "titles" being used to be obscure making the search facility somewhat redundant.

I don't know enough about the technicalities of forum sites to know if an export button could be added, but the export format should be a common format, hence my suggestion about pdf.

So,
1) is it technically possible?
2) am I a lone voice?

So far 255 "views" but only a handfull of replies

I would use it.
All too often the SBS database is eroded by the need to clear out eg photobucket, rendering a picture based SBS useless.

The ability to make a decent PDF archive would be invaluable.

See fairly recent posts from myself and 3Lb jim about redundant SBS caused by this effect
