Phew! been at it all day, had some slides from the past of the Coch y Bonddu Beetle, Bloodworm and the Heather Fly. Scanned them, then got them to size and I've put them on my website. This is a link to the page.

They are dressed on size 8 Admiral Hooks, I had them from the Czech Republic... a few years ago. They are used for Czech nymphs, any hook for that purpose would suit.

Love the beetle - I use ice dub in the same way on the underside of the abdomen ( on rather less elegant imitations). I think foam patterns are all the better for having a bit of texture added.

Nice step by step.

I do have concerns about the finishing touches though - I appreciate that the varnish has been added to fortify the rather delicate raffia. However, have you considered the dire implications the weight imposed has for the proportion of the fly sitting above the meniscus

Thanks for those Gwilym. I've been waiting ages for your bloodworm pattern to appear. I've had a lot of fish on that one over the years, including a 31/2lb Hanningfield rainbow that took me down to the backing three times!

Sorry about the delay, the bloodworm are good for Carp also when they are muddying a corner, just leave it there, make sure it's on a 7 or 8 weight and 10lb leader.

On your other post with the Shads you mentioned Butcher and Sparkler
cannot find a dressing for a Sparkler maybe I should wait untill Bonfire Night and buy some
