Twist it into a "rope", wrap it over some wet varnish, catch lots of fish, then bin it.

I tend to use the herl rope'n'thread strand twisted together approach with herl on dry flies- black or brown 10/0 Powersilk works OK for me.

Same effect though,looks wise - some folk prefer the single strand of herl thing.

Can anyone advise how to stop F Flies sliming up on takes?

The only time I fished one it didnt last ..........

Isnt this the permanent doubt about this material ??

I could suggest the best way to prevent these flies sliming up is to hold off feeding them to fish... but I won't go there

Rinsing out the fly (swishing in water) and then drying between amadou layers works pretty good. The tie-in of the wing as I described earlier in this thread also makes a difference.

I use Kimberly-Clark Wypall wipers - that blue absorbent paper you get in big rolls from industrial suppliers.

I just rinse the fly enthusiastically in the water, then squeeze it between layers of the tissue, much as Hans as suggested for "Amadou".


Takes about 10 seconds................

I find it more useful than Amadou in other bankside emergencies ( ). And it is cheap.

(it doesn't collapse on wetting either i.e. unlike toilet tissue or kitchen roll, you can reuse it on drying).
