Aye it works on the little lochans of Rannoch Moor too! I had one reduced to the varnished head and some black and silver strands on Mathair Etive one snowy day in June, thirty or so years ago. It was catching fish but I wanted it to float so replaced it with another...

Just a reminder that this fly is also very good for grayling at the back end of the year. My best from the Dove (19.5 inches long) came to a size 14 version.

Mmm I like this fly to. So easy to tie and always looks good. I'm going Grayling fishing next week, think I'll knock up a few 14s and give them a try. Thanks for the post

I have to say that Richard's SBS patterns from this to the red hackle, the aphids, the dusters, the double badgers, kites, Sturdy's and his poly spinner have all been a pleasure to tie and have been fish catchers. They were nothing short of a revelation for me this past season. Favorites all!!!!!
