It is coming up to prime time. The big girls are ready to feed now that the spawning frolics are coming to a close!
Thanks go to McFluffchucker for the inspiration for this pattern
Materials:
Hook - Ad Swier Black Nickel Absolute Pike 2/0
Thread - Uni Big-Fly Olive
Tail(s) - White Magnum Zonker/Silver sparkler/Flashabou accent
Body - 40mm Holo/UV white chenille
Head - Red/Green dyed Deer body hair and Googly eyes from ASDA!

Place the hook firmly in the vice jaws - these Partridge hooks are nice and barbless

Catch in a loop of wire at the point opposite the hook point - give this a blob of glue to secure. I've used nylon coated wire to help prevent corrosion. The purpose of this loop is to help prevent the tail catching on the bend of the hook during casting/retrieving

Tie in your zonker strip or strips (some of Mr Swiers flies have 7!!

) by tearing a bit of fur away and cutting to a small 'V'. At the same point catch in 3 strands of flashabou either side of the shank and a generous hank of Silver sparkler material on top. Again, secure with a blob of superglue.

Next catch in the UV fritz and wind in touching turns, taking care not to trap any stray fibers, forward towards the eye of the hook. Secure at a point 2/3 of the way along the shank and add another generous hank of silver sparkler material - leaving room to construct the head section. Again, give it a wee spot of glue before moving on.

The next job is to create the head using your Deer hair. Unlike me, you should do this carefully with the use of a stacker to line all the tips up nicely - shouldn't make a major difference to the effectiveness of the fly but it will be more aesthetically pleasing!

Try and pack the deerhair as close to the preceeding bunch as possible

Why not mix it up a bit with a different colour or even add some rubber legs?

You should end up with something that resembles a mulit-coloured loo brush! Take your time to cut and trim the head to shape.....for a diver you should go for a pronounced sloping head like the Dahlberg flies or you could go for a bulbous appearance - it's up to you.

Once you have the desired shape you can add the googly eyes by means of epoxy/hot glue etc - these will give a real rattle when pulled through the water!

The finished fly.

Get out there and have some rod-bending fun!!!
