Default Woven wire Peter Ross Dabbler

Hi Guys
this is a pattern we used on Sheelin last year and accounted for a ball of fish,it worked a treat in north Uist and Lough Currane.
The weaving of the wire is great for getting patterns under the wave and for nymphs it is brilliant especailly for up stream nymphing

Hook no 10
Thread 8/0 black
Tail claret cock pheasant
Body (rear) Silver UTC wire
Body (front) red dubbing
Hackle bronze mallard

secure the tail and rib
Click the image to open in full size.
weave in the wire 3/4 along the hook it is important to make sure the weave is slightly open to get the weave effect too tight as weave loses the effect
Click the image to open in full size.
secure 1 piece of the wire and remove the other
Click the image to open in full size.
now tie in the red dubbing for the front half
Click the image to open in full size.
next three turns of the wire to form a rib and secure the dubbing
Click the image to open in full size.
get a piece of good quality bronze mallard and spin it on the hook as though you were putting deer hair on
Click the image to open in full size.
trim the mallard and make a bed to put the cloaked wing on
Click the image to open in full size.
gently fold a piece of mallard in two and place it over the top cloaking the spun mallard
Click the image to open in full size.
trim off the waste , build up the head and apply three coats of varnish, then fish it.
Enjoy

Thanks Laurie, Great SBS. Interesting method for cloaking the bronze mallard, not seen that one before, any chance you could describe it in a bit more detail?

Also I've seen a number of SBS showing woven bodies, but not seen an SBS for how to do the weave itself, any chance of a general SBS for this?

Many Thanks
Mot

Lawrence, last time we spoke about this one, we discussed maybe trying teal instead of bronze - it is a Peter Ross, after all!!

Did you ever get around to giving the teal a go?

great tying Laurie gonna have a stab at that weaving and the way the mallard is rolled round the head, but i got a funny feeling my first few weavings will end up making shopping trolleys and Hanibal Lecters mouth brace
