Default Winged Flies

Thought I would dare post an example of one of my winged fly efforts. It's a style of fly I usually have trouble with and mormally just don't bother trying to tie wiged flies. I am actually pleased with the outcome of this effort but its not quite right as one of the slips have slipped. Gonna try to perfect this style.

Good effort Jock. It's nice to see someone having the courage to give paired slip wings a go. I know it's no longer fashionable, but is that because paired slips don't work or because people can't be ersed to learn in the current 'instant gratification' society? IMO paired slips definitely have a place with some patterns and other materials just don't give the same effect. Years ago, you weren't considered a fly dresser until you could do a decent wing. Next one to try is a slip half the depth of the gape and don't forget the vulcan death grip.

I've been fishing recently with an old chum, who I'd never fished with before. He's into drift boat fishing in the traditional fashion. So, natch, he tried traditional flies, while I stuck to my known quantity - buzzers. I switched when he totally outfished me. Winged wets work just fine! And that looks like a good 'un.
