For that quantity, you are probably best to try a lead wire manufacturer in Italy.

(A "bulk spool" of 0.4mm lead wire sold for flytying by Veniard only contains 50gr.)

surely a kilo of lead wire from Italy would incur some charges and you would have to balance wether it is worth the hassle?

You could try solid core solder. http://www.warton-metals.co.uk/solidsolderwire.html do 85% lead 15% tin solders in diameters from Ø3.25 to Ø0.274 the tin will drop the overall density a little but not much (about 5%).

Goodfellows do pure (as in 99.999% pure) lead in Ø0.5mm but you’ll need a mortgage for 1kg.

You must tie a lot of weighted bugs to need 50m of lead wire!

You may be able to get more weight using copper, I know the density is lower than lead but, you can get copper wire in very fine diameters so won’t leave as big a gap as 0.5mm lead would. Copper would be much cheaper (I’m assuming you’re looking to buy in bulk to save money).

If you don't mind th 80 euro but don't want to buy 5 kg What about trying to find someone who buys the lead wire from the supplier and see if you could buy some from them to save you buying 5kgs of it?
