Bob,

Not surprised that you are promoting your (and Phil Bailey's) own new web business but I cannot see the Kamasan hooks on the site!

Kind regards

Phil,
Do you fancy meeting up for a days trouting at Burnsall before the seasons over?
I have one last guest ticket left for this season.

To take this thread back to the original question...I have been tying and fishing for a while now with AJ hooks. Hey, I'm no expert we all know that but I have found them to be very sharp and easy see they are a strong hook. I am often reminded of the sharpness when tying! Ok I'm clumsy .

What I find particularly attractive is the finish which is bright. Spider patterns are quite dull especially when wet and I think the glint of the uncovered end of the hook possibly works as an attractor in the first instance.

Basically they are very neat, pick one up and have a look. The eye, the bend...just neat. I've tried several others over the last few months but for me-I'm sticking with these. They get my vote.

Forgot to add the sizes 11 13 15 17 and now I think 9. Possibly that was what first caught my attention. When 12 feels to big or 18 to small-choices...

Just added a bit on the end above-sizes. ESP hooks filled in the gaps for carp/specialist hunters some years ago with size 5 7 9 and more. Innovative at the time and quickly became and remain a best seller. I guess people feel they have an edge. True or false if you believe then you become more focussed-it is our nature.

I could stand more choice-what about you?

Christy
I couldn’t agree more, what I like about the Daiichi/Kamasan hooks is they are both ultra strong and ultra sharp, I have lost count of the amount of times I have pricked myself when tying on these hooks! The barbs also crush down easily and as you say they have a bright nickel finish which I believe adds to the translucency of the dressing when the fly is in the water. I favour a straight eyed hook for North Country patterns, notice I didn’t say Spiders! As I like the combined profile of the hook and the dressing.
I would love more choice in respects to wet fly hooks as I find that end of the market is under represented by the manufacturers, which is why I turned to the B525s which are course fishing hooks, I have used the Daiichi 1480/Kamasan B525s for a number of years now and think they are superb hooks. Partridge are bringing out a straight eyed version of the SLD sometime this year so it will be good to see how they match up.
