The Finn Raccoon I've had success with has been on my mind... I broke off from toads on Sunday and tied this fella with what was around me as I'd just got some Funky Hair, and Funky Shimmer & Shine... oh and Funky 3 colour eyes...
Now the base of this fly is a body of brushed out Finn Raccoon and then over laid with synthetic shimmery stuff... OK the colours may not be what you'd expect but this is work in progress... the eyes are too big for a start anyway. But based on the mobility of the raccoon I reckon his body will fish long after he stops swimming and also as it is so dense it should push a hole in the water and attract the water wolf... I have white and grey Finn Raccoon which I'll overlay with traditional baitfish colours... Mmmm... guess this guy will get fished Friday anyhow
Oh tied on a 2/0 Mustad c68s ss (because it was there) and it has a dose of Bug-Bond on it to secure the eyes and tying points.
During a 20 minute slot in my life tonight I managed to get this fella on the above fly... tied specifically to get this fish... this guy has been annoying the heck out of me by sucking BIG flies and then running off... I caught him last year on a sink and draw sprat lip hooked on a size 2 Owner Mutu Light... this year he'd grown a bit and fell for a fly... I have to say the brushed out and winged Finn Raccoon gave a great action and on the stop I guess it was kind of deadly... the Funky Fly Tying synthetics over the top worked well...
(Oh HTC... get your act together on the cameras in your phones... they are rubbish!)
