I've been trying this style in various guises and sizes.. a size 10 seems to do best on the bob, with a size 12 proving very useful for that tricky middle dropper choice. The Squirrel and Hares Ear (above) version has done a fair bit of damage for me this season. A simple suggestive pattern that will do a job on the bob for Daddies (wet) Sedge emerger, or a general terrestrial etc. Further down the leader, it's not a million miles away from suggesting shrimp, louse ascending Sedge and even fry.

Squirrel & H.E.

Hook: B170 size 10 or 12.
Rib: Oval gold.
Body: Squirrel and H.E. mix.
Body Hackle: Ginger or Golden Olive Grizzle Hen.
Shoulder Hackle: G.P. Body feather.
Front Hackle: Grizzle Hen or Grey Partridge.

Got a very lukewarm response to this one when I posted it a year ago....

Mink-Hog

Thankfully, the fish received it quite well, especially early season, when it nobbled a few on Stocks for me this spring. I decided to knock a couple of other versions up that might be more useful during the rest of the season... firstly with fry feeders in mind....

Hare-Hog

Fry/Daphnia......

The white one above nobbled a few for me on Grafham last weekend. Size 10 on the tail or bob, or a size 12 on the middle. Both sizes took fish.

And a general Catty type lure...

Fur-Hogs

Hook: B175 size 10 or 12
Tail: Mixed Marabou to suit body/wing colours.
Body: Various straggles.
'Wing': Bunches of fur (Mink/Rabbit/Hare etc) tied in Hog-style.
Overwing: A few strands of long straggle.
Hackle: Long hen to suit body/wing colours.
Cheeks: JC splits optional.

Quality as always Rob I like the way you've 'traditionalised' patterns like the mini-cat, they look much better than just fritz and marabou lashed to a hook. What's the body on the hare hog?

Cheers for posting them - Steve

I have both green, white & brown rabbit/mink in my tying kit so I'll be trying some cats based on those colours plus yr inspiration Rob forthwith!

Like the SQ/HE - reminiscent of Geoff Johnston's "Ullswater" pattern. I'm guessing it would do well on the Lakes tarns in smaller sizes......

Ahha.... well spotted Steve! Wonderful product that one. Delightful shade, and good Marabou. It's 'Castle Feathers' Golden Olive. Bought mine from Stocks. I'm sure they will bung a pack in the post for you. I think castle do a bit on Ebay too.
