Exclamation WHICH VICE?????

HI GUYS I SUSPECT THIS HAS BEEN BANDED AROUND BEFORE????? FORGIVE ME IF SO I HAVEN'T SEEN IT. i WAS WANDERING WHAT PEOPLES THOUGHTS WERE ON VICES? I AM LOOKING TO TY MORE OVER THE WINTER MONTHS AND WOULD LIKE TO UPGRADE ME VICE. CURRENTLY USE A FARILY BASIC LURE FLASH, DON'T WANT TO SPEND A BOMB AS IN MY (NAIVE) LITTLE BRAIN IT PROBABLY DOESN'T MAKE THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE (ESPECIALLY IF YOU'VE SEEN MY FLIES)

MY PREFERANCE IS THE LAW VICE, BEAUTIFULLY CONSTRUCTED, EVERYTHING A FLY DRESSER NEEDS,
BUT ITS JUST A TOOL FOR HOLDING A FLY HOOK,,
SO WHAT EVER YOUR POCKET CAN AFFORD IS THE SIMPLE ANSWER,

Frankly, if your present vice holds the hooks you use firmly and without damage, and presents it in a way that suits your tying methods, then you already have exactly what you NEED. However, NEED and DESIRE are different things, and if you desire something smarter, shinier, more stainless steel and alloy looking, then you'd do best to wander down to your nearest Sportfish (or what-ever) emporium, and have a look around. Preferably without your credit card to hand, as you can then go home and have a think. Personally, I use several el-cheapo indian made vices, a Dyna-king Professional, and a Snowbee AR. The latter two are expensive, but apart from using the superior ability of the Dyna-king to secure very large hooks for saltwater flies, I use the vices indiscriminately. I am not the world's finest fly-dresser, nor ever likely to be, but that is no reflection on any of my (tying) vices. So, you need not spend a bean. On the other hand, I couldn't advise against a little desire bending your mind, and whacking your credit card. Pleasure of ownership is very subjective, and hard to measure!!

A griffin Patriot is a very good affordable vice. I used one for years bu now I've bought a Dyna King Barracuda. expensive bit IMO worth it. I couldn't justify buying a Law vice. But as Hobble said they are only a tool for holding hooks. Spend what you can afford.

Dont mind Hobble, the boy is minted!

Try a HMH Spartan - about £100, and has served me perfectly.

This subject is covered here very frequently, so perhaps anyone needing info might consider using the search facility at the top r/h corner.

Having sold the things for years, I'd say either go cheap, AA or regal, and accept the fact that it's cheap, with a poor finish, and occasionally comes loose, but does the job.

Or.........

Go expensive and get something that does the job in a really nice quality manner. I love my LAW, but, the Dyna Kings are also superb, and HMH certainly has lots of fans too.

I really can't see the point of a mid priced well made AA vice, you're paying £100 for it to be shiny and not matt black, why bother? Everyone learnt on a basic AA, it worked when you didn't know what you were doing, it'll work plenty well enough now. But if you afford to treat yourself, why not?

Very nice, but what made you think of having a built in wireless router?
