I can't but Steve Cooper will almost certainly be able to help.

Also remember you could use jackdaw scalp as a substitute for moorhen. It is indistinguishable on the fly.

Cheers,
Alan.

Have a try! Both birds live in similar habitats and behave in a similar fashion! Although the head markings are different as you know.
Give it a go!

For Waterhen Bloa I'd use either waterhen or Jackdaw Scalp the important thing to realise is that the dubbing for the body isn't mole! Mole is exactly the right texture but is way too short to work properly.

The original was water rat (and if you go and shoot yourself one I'll report you for it!) I have a little that is from a very old fly tying kit. It is 3 or 4 times as long as mole. A better subistitute is the under fur from a muskrat. Be careful not to get the guard hairs mixed in with it.

Cheers,
Alan.

You could get a suitable body dub by using a mixture of blue rabbit underfur & mole I am relliably told. For hackle.Coot would probably be no good as it is the wrong colour as their feathers tend to be a bit longer than Waterhen. Must admit I just use Mole & whilst it is a bit tight the colour seems about right & the fish do not mind too much.
Tight lines
