Default Rubber-Legged Copper John

Here's a fly that I had an absolute ball with on the River Dun a couple of weeks back. The section of the river I was fishing was quite deep and narrow and this little guy made for a day of sight nymph fishing at its best. They simply can't resist the little rubber legs. I tried a couple of different colours but olive and black was the best by far.

Hook: Tiemco 2499 SP #14
Bead: 3mm gold tungsten
Underweight: 0.015" lead wire
Thread: UTC 70 Black
Tail: fiery brown goose biots
Body: Olive and black UTC wire, size brassie, wrapped together
Thorax: peacock Ice Dub
Legs: black rubber, extra fine
Thorax Cover: Black Thin Skin; Silver holographic tinsel; coated with Bug Bond

Three quarter view:

It's pretty easy to tie. The only difficult part being the biot tail because of the shape of the hook and the intrusion of the vice. My tails are too long on this one. The Bug Bond is so much easier to use than epoxy.

Steve, Buzz and Co. Does it make any difference if the fly is tied on a curved hook like this or a normal straight backed wet fly hook? Probably imagining it, but seem to see more and more weighted patterns on curved/buzzer type hooks these days......tks

Here's another colour combination: copper and copper brown. This time a #16 with a 2.5mm bead. I did a better job with the tails but a lousy job winding the wire and tying in the holo. Must remember to check my work as I tie.

Just an observation but i seem to have success with Copper Johns and Trout but not Grayling, in fairness i only occasionally use them and they are regular copper colour.
Is this others experience?

The first one above has caught both for me. I generally don't find grayling that fussy.

Thanks Steve, that has inspired me to try different colour combinations.
