Default New Vice Advice

I have just bought a Supreme Vice. The jaws are chamferred on one side. For dressing trout flies which is best, chamfer facing up or down? I cannot decide which would be best.
Thanks
Rusty

There's only 1 person that can tell you which is best, after all it's a 50/50 choice. Try a few different patterns both ways & then decide.

There's only 1 hard & fast rule, & that's there are NO hard & fast rules.

chamfer facing down would give better access to the bend of hook area to add tailing materials

but try both ways and use whats more comfortable for YOUR tying style, not ours.

Default Best Vice Use

Thanks for your views.
So there is not much in it.
At the end of the day your philosophy on how to hold a hook and the type of hooks being held are important considerations. To minimise the stress in the hook seems to be the modern approach rather than hiding the point for safety reasons.
Whilst the vice is a bit agricultural, I rather like it.
