Default Anyone recognise this fly?

Hi,

Found this little gem in my box and want to know what it is (name?) and how best to tie it.

It looks like black thread, silver rib, red thorax and black hackle. As i'm a beginner to tying any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Nidd

Nidd,

Looks like a simple "hotspot spider" - I tie 100's of them, very popular with my clients and very productive!

Recipe:

Black Pearsalls thread (or any black thread)
Silver wire rib
Globrite No. 4 floss hotspot
Black hen hackle.

Simple method of tying - take thread from eye down to a point above the hook point - catch in the rib, take the thread back towards the eye, rib up the body with the wire, catch down the wire and trim, catch in the floss, twist it and wrap on 4/5 turns then catch down. Catch in your hackle, wrap two turns - done!

Kind regards
