Default Brown Beetle

I don't know if anyone else has noticed a fall of these things, but over the past month there's been falls of varying intensity of small brown beetles, on Rutland, Pitsford and Ravensthorpe. They're about 7mm long and look like small weevils of flour beetles. Anyway, here's something that's taken the fishes fancy, either on a floater or kelly green with a slow/static fig 8 retrieve.

Hook: Hayabusa 752 #14
Thread: Uni-Thread 8/0, brown.
Back: Brown foam.
Body: Buff fur from grey squirrel mask.
Palmer: Medium ginger cock (clipped underneath).
Rib: brown thread.

Nice fly, but maybe a bit leggy for a beetle?

Don't know, I like my beetles leggy - be it hackle or rubber 'paddles', the extra appendages help the pattern stand out in beetle soup, I reckon.

That's a nice, typically understated pattern Alex and I can tell it's had a few fish already. It would take fish on the rivers I frequent too, no danger.

I feel really cack now for posting a bloody cat's whisker, you horrible imitative, dull browns and olives, thinking man's angler you

Cheers me owd,

I must admit it's not quite as leggy as it may seem, the hackle's clipped underneath so there's just a 'spray' from under the foam. It sits nicely on the surface that way, I'll edit the dressing. As for imitative, well, on the lure front I've been doing a thumping great 4" long perch zonker recently. I can do nasty too mate.
