Default Fly tying live.

My wife does two days a week volountary work at the nearby animal sanctuary.
It has its benefits, she brings me some very unique feathers at times.
This little chap came home with her last night, as his feet need bathing in surgical spirits for a few days to rid him of mites.

He for some reason takes me very seriously every time I walk past him, can't think why.

Your wife must be an amazingly wonderful person. And not not for bringing home a self generating supply of feathers, but for allowing that "little chap" in the house. I would be sent away to sleep in a box down the street, and I am the one that pays for everything!
Thanks for the laughs..

No it's a cockerel, actually he is sweet, and very well behaved, very calm, not like you would expect at all.
I often open her car door on her return, to find some poor creature in the back.
It was tiny Indian runner ducks the other week which had stuck in the shell under the heat lamp and were in a real mess.
We soaked them for a while and cleaned them up.
Next morning they were fine, trouble was we were the first things they saw when the eyes opened, so we became the parents.
They followed us everywhere, and I mean everywhere, it was very funny, I have a pic somewhere.
We returned them to the sanctuary a few days later, and every time mrs T went in the pen, along came "Donald" bold as brass.
Great to see them survive though.
All rather strange really, I was raised on a large farm as a Child, and rung more hens necks than you could throw a stick at.
And now I have packed in the shooting, I have become very soft in my old age, and see them in a different light.
I even watch rabbits on the lawn and find myself smiling and feeling protective of them.
10 years ago, I was out lamping them.
I think we all mellow with age, thank the lord.

Yes exactly . I've tied a few throughout the evening and continue to do so. Soon as I saw the bird my eyes explored lustfully...where shall we begin a gentle pluck?

S, we have three chickens and they are banned bigtime from entering the house, their droppings are the size of golf balls-how do you cope?

I also relate to getting older and no longer feeling the compulsion to hunt. Like you, I am a shooting man. Lamping in the 70s early 80s. Lurchers working at 3am Walking miles across the bogs of Conemarra for a Grouse or Snipe...my fave meal jugged (Port) Hare.

Happy days, but perhaps like you behind me now. There are more Hares around here than anywhere I've seen. The Mrs and me always stop the car and look. They are dandy. Can't even kill a trout now.

That's life .
