Hi All, I'm trying to figure this out and need your help. When flies emerge and begin their transformation from a pupae to fly. Do they use Blood to help in their bodily change or Plastron gas, which occurs in them naturally.
The way I understand this so far is, at the sub-surface point in the meniscus or surface film, they force their way through, at the same time their bodies undergo radical changes.
Blood is pumped around the body more quickly which induces the Plastron Gas in to gaps in the skin layers, forcing them apart. The weakest point is at the top of the thorax which splits and allows the fly to emerge wings and head first.
Would this statement be correct?
Best regards
