Default Grayling nymphs

With the grayling season fast approaching I thought I would do a few wee nymphs,

All tied on living nymph hooks, size 16 with 1.5mm metalic tungsten beads.
Bodies, turkey biot or dyed pheasant tail.
Hackle, ginger hen
thoraxes, dubbed black marabou and pink lightbrite.

What do you think, worth getting wet?

Yes there is such a thing as grayling flies. But these flies will still catch other species of fish. There is certain flies like for example the pink shrimp (czech nymph) that you would target grayling with. Different species of fish have different flies that work more successful for each of them.

We only really fish for grayling here after the end of the brown trout season, (6th Oct).

I take your point about the flies also taking other fish but my point is that I will be using them to target grayling.
Where I will be fishing there are no coarse fish and the brown trout season will have closed. I therefore will not be trying to catch them.
Though you do catch the odd one by mistake.

The first one floats my boat , would work on "my" bit of the Kennet , whats the dressing ??
My take on grayling is they start being a target once the salmon season is tailing off, i.e. end of october just the way my season works !

I bought mine in Glasgow Angling Centre, but it says Orvis on the packet.
£2.50 for 4 quills, thought it a wee tad steep for what they are. Dont know what the going rate is.

hi graham, not having a pop mate just saying that all the small nymphs that we river fishermen tye are for both the trout & grayling,so i would just call them nymphs of one sort or another not for any particular species,i catch plenty grayling on standard tungsten beaded ptn's of one kind or another thats all you need maybe change colour of the beads for depth of water or clarity of water or even if the fish get spooky.cheers craig.
