Bucktail and flashabou type materials I'd say, as well as some big gaudy coloured feathers.

Also maybe some clear-goo might be useful in making fry patterns.

WCB was talking about putting together some starter packs. PM him and see what he can put together for you.

All good quality materials too

Have a look at Dougie Loughridge's work... has to be one of the pike on the fly guys who ties excellent stuff and catches fish (big) consistently... Flashtail Whistler SBS should give you an idea or two and then search his posts... copy his stuff you won't go far wrong...

Apologies to all other tyers of pike flies, I know theren are lots of us but none sprung to mind that have done SBSs etc...

Default Pike Flies

Some time ago I had a go at tying some Pike Flies.

This Step by Step guide was a great starting point:

Default Pike fishing

I did a little pike fishing some time ago. However, I have little enough opportunity to fish and much prefer fishing for trout and graying so I sold all my pike tackle.

I wouldn't bother with Pitsford or Ravensthorpe, much cheaper to get a day ticket on the Nene or other coarse fishery.

Ask someone about Northampton Nene Angling Club waters, they have lots of local waters, including canals. A seasons fishing for the price of a day at Pitsford.
