Default River Dries

Here are two river dries that have done very well for me this season. The CDC and Elk accounted for the most amazing days fishing I have ever had when fishing the Derbyshire Wye, until the last one found a new home in a tree that is.

CDC and Elk a la Me

Hook, 103BL size 19
Abdomen, superfine dubbing, tan
Underwing, Khaki CDC
Wing and thorax, spun coastal deer hair

Olive comparadun

Hook, size 14 wave barbless
Tail and wing, Coastal deer hair
Abdomen, superfine dubbing, olive
Wing, CDC in split thread dubbed through the deer hair.

All comments are welcome as always.

They look great I use an elk hair caddis pattern alot in size 17 but never thought of a cdc underwing will give it a go.

How did you dub the cdc through the wing of the comparadun? Did you wind it through?

Simple, lovely proportions; fly minimalism.

I split the thread and inserted a CDC feather before cutting off along the stalk so that you end up with the pointy end of the fibres being long and a short stubby end out the other side (does that make sense?). Then make one wind behind the deer hair and pull all the fibres up, then bring up about a third of the deer hair and make another wrap and pull the fibres up again etc... etc... until i make a final wrap in front of the deer hair.

Sorry that was very long winded of me.

Thanks Splash, only tie them so minimal so it is not too expensive losing them in trees!!!

that cdc and Elk is just what I think I'll be needing. Klinks have been doing very well for me recently but tonight not so good. Big sedge hatch at the minute though.

One used me to hitch a ride and freaked me out when it climbed up my leg in the car!
