Default Coastal deerhair for hoppers

About to tie up some fiery brown Hoppers like Davie mcphails pattern but i only have coastal deerhair and not roe deer,will this still work??

The coastal I have does not float as well as the roe or other deer hair, it does work on the smaller hooks. Try one out and drop it in a glass of water or Single Malt.

yh i had done a few size 14 yellow owl style emergers with the coastal and 2 cdc plumes on a size 14 and they float very well,and some size 20 or 22 caddis/mayfly emergers also a davie Mcphail pattern,think ill try one with the glass method and take it from there ty

His fiery brown hopper is a good patterns. I landed several nice rainbows on it last month. Going to tie up a few more in different colours soon. I guess I should try out the yellow owl as well. I think I might test that single malt tonight to make sure it is still wet.

Found some Black deerhair not sure which type but certainly thicker than my coastal ,got an idea for a black hopper but with Black peacock ice dub,at the thorax end and woven thru the deerhair and brushed out

got 5 of them in the box
untested yet but bound to have its day add a little angora goat to the ice dub for extra floatation
