Default Fry Pattens

Hi,

Can any of you canny fly tyers suggest an Autumn fry patten for trout, around a size 6-4 long snank sizes.

I need it to sink slowly, and not too heavy something for an 8#. I would like some pattens you have tried yourselves or some you think are real goers, and really up to date.

Oh and not to long in the tying, please.

Thanks to all.

zonkers/minkies are probably amongst the best out there, and pretty easy to tie, nothing too complicated about them. if you're fishing for fish taking perch fry, use an olive version with orange at the head. Something like this:

for fish taking roach fry use a grey/white version with red at the head, so simply go for a matching colour with a bright hotspot.
use them on any line, depending on how deep the fish are, just use a slow retrieve with twitches.
also, as a personal preference, I wouldn't use a longshank hook, they bend out too easily with the big fish around at that time, use a standard shank heavyweight (B175 or comp. heavy), alot stronger and also you can use a longer tail to get the right length, which will give you more movement.
hope this helps.

cheers,

john

SBS = Step By Step

There is a separate section of this forum dedicated to step by steps for a huge range of flies, take a look, you'll be amazed what you can find

Thanks Guy's,

The Minkie's I know catch a lot of fish, and I like the idea of short shank 175 for them so that's a help.

Steve what is the body material for that, it's very scale like. Can you post a tying?

Cheers to all.
