Because there is no other hackle.

You could just go simple and go for a hare's ear f-fly

A few for you to try Garry.

RFC Hackle fly.
RFC Hackle spinner
C & C Midge
MMG Tular
Cluster Microcaddis
Bubble sedge.

That should keep you busy for a while.

Gary.
Here's a couple, all effective flies

1. Hares ear Loop wing- hares mask for body, wire for ribbing, cdc for wing.

2. Shipmans buzzer- hares mask for body, polyprop for tail & breathers, wire for rib.

3. Shuttlecock hares ear buzzer-hares mask for body, cdc for thorax cover, wing & breather brought over thorax and tied in at the head(deadly buzzer).

4. Grey duster-badger hackle fibres for tail, hares mask for body(greyish under-fur), badger cape for hackle.

All good flies to incorparate a few different techniques for practise.

A ball of fluff for the cat to play with given that you don't have a hook

If you want to use all of those materials I would go for a copper ribbed CDC Fly (hares ear body), knotted legs from the badger cape, White polypro wing buds, and a Light Tan coloured yarn.

Reagrds,
Terry
