Default Seeking Advice

I'm heading off for a weeks fishing in Wales, near Porthmadog, and was wondering if anyone could give some recomendations as to what are the best patterns to be using?

We have set ourselves the challenge of only fishing with patterns we have tied ourselves, which is going to be interesting as none in the party have that much experience, hence why I have posted this here

Well it was a good weeks fishing in the river where we were staying in total 14 fish caught all on self tied flies which was rather rewarding. Unfortunately the river fish were very small wild brown trout, from 2" to about 7" in size, all were returned of course. There was a bit more success at a local fishery where I landed a nice 1.5lb brown, again released back into the "wild". We also managed to find some small lakes up in the hills which had wild brown trout in them, unfortunately we never managed to hook and land anything there, however I did get a good few bites on a gold headed nymph creation.

The fly that worked the best was a #20 Felin Parc "Fluffer" (which is what it ended up being called, not sure if there is an official name for this or not.)

It does look a bit hammered as it did see a lot of action. Seeing as I only started fly tying again about 1 week before the trip after nearly a 20 year break from it I was very pleasantly surprised.

Here are some of the others which I have tied recently.

The "Gnatzy" again worked very well on the river (size #20 hook):

As well as what I like to call the "Hot Ember" (size #20 hook):

One of the main problems I'm having is getting the hackle at the front to be nice and "full" as you can see from the two photos above it looks a bit sparce so any advice or pointers very much appreciated.

Yes it is, at the place we were staying in the evening there were a lot of little black bugs, midges etc... tied this up and it worked pretty well.
