Talking Cheap alternative to Grizzle Cock?

Hello, it's not like me to be sensible or have a lot of cash, so when these two things mix in my fly tying world, ludicrous thoughts occur.

At the moment, I have two genetic grizzle cock feathers - but I'm not going to use them - they're too precious to me.

I was wondering if you could buy a white cock cape and spray some kind of paint through a grid to produce a grizzle effect.

Is this nuts? Am I nuts?

Well, I'm certainly not going to search for chinese grizzle cock on google again!

My innoscent mind has been subjected to something unexpected - I won't list the hits I got when searching - they'll no doubt offend!

Never knew fly tying was such a dangerous hobby!

Not a bad idea at all.
Though I would suggest donning a balaclava and robbing a grizzle cape from your nearest tying shop migh be more sensible.

Yeah, I thought about that - but it might be too fiddlely, unless...

You could make a stencil & dab the marker onto the feather!

Job's a good un

Only thing is, I only have a blue marker - think the fish'll mind?

Right enough, I think they'll be more ****** at the rediculous excuse of a fly I present to them.

I need a loch filled with suicidal fish, or my fly tying career is over!

HAHAHAHA

It works!

The grizzle might be blue - but it looks really quite good & is less fiddely than I though. The stencil works perfectly

There you go , the fact you used blue not black shows you that you could "grizzle" in any colour you wanted

Why not buy another grizzle cape?, be it metz, keough or whiting, or indian for that matter, white costs the same as grizzle.
Personally I think you are wasting your time, time that would be better spent at the vice. Permanent marker or not, 15 minutes getting pulled through the water will soon remove the colour making it a total waste of time.
Cheers

Well, for one I've spent what little money I had on fly tying and cannot afford a grizzle cape. And two, I was having a bit of a laugh.
