Question Use of Dog hair/fur for dubbing material.

Search function came up zero so this may actually be an 'original question' for the Fora. Have two dogs, one being a Huskey/Scharpe (sp?) mix. Husky sheds like an old rug; with the heat we've had over this past month it's a daily chore.

(I might add I have to vacuum the carpets every day too!)

In the main what I get is very soft light brown under-fir that's about 2" long and the thought that this might be a good dubbing material crossed my mind.

Anyone actually given this a try?

I use cat fur for dubbing and it works. It is finer than most dog hair in its natural state. If the hairs are very long then maybe try cutting it up a little. Huskies do have a fine fluffier underhair that may be useful. I haven't tried husky furs although I wouldn't mind trying it.

Could be barking up the wrong tree, there Fred.

Isn't there a guy that uses wolf hair or some such on here.

Red face I knew the 'bad puns' would start, just how long would it take?

it is a shame that you will not see the fly photos in that thread...however, if you all are patient, the flies [under ArticWolf in the fly forum] will be posted on my blog, as well as the fish the creator...Geordie had caught using his flies...

..I'm just waiting on Geordie to produce the SBS of said flies....

..I've tied/used the fur off of my Wolves with great success, the under fur is finer than you think, and the fur from my Arctic Wolf pup is even finer than cat [which dries in around 30 minutes, that is using the whole animal as the example]........AW

Enough with the doggie and feline fur flies - has anyone tried using their own hair?

My armpit hair conehead shrimp is very successful

Several years back one of the boards had a fly tyeing contest, idea being 'it' had to be as close to an 'original tie' as you could dream up.

The hands down winner was a plain white body, silver oval tin. rib and a black (very curly I might add) hair wing: Name of the fly: "My understanding wife."

hmm havent tried using my own hair spose if i did it would be good for GREY wulf patterns or SILVER sedge and i think a few of the other guys would only be good for sparse north country flys:P
