For the past three seasons at least, the klink has been first pick on the team sheet when fishing dries on the reservoirs and lochs.I'll team it up with a shippy,bits,hopper,f/fly depending on what the fish are doing at the time. But regardless of what the fish are feeding on,the klink always seems to pull its weight and justifies its place on the cast.

What are your default dries.....?

My go to dry fly has to be the Klinkhammer, , If I can't get a rise from that sometimes an Adams does it.
I have a mate who just stays with Adams all the time and catches a lot of fish
My Nymph is an orange hot spot PT.
I am fishing the chalk streams of the south near my house and these three seem to work for me.The Klinks are all different colours and sizes, but all following the original pattern and hook style, otherwise they really are just a parachute fly and not a Klinkhammer at all.
I think the thing with the Klink is that even a small 18 Klinkhammer hook is a huge fly, I don't know why they work they just do!
I think there is a lot to be said for confidence!

Those klinks look the bizz Jimmy, I usually tie mine on the gold coloured hooks but see many tyers using the darker hooks. Do you think it makes any difference ?
Anyway my 3 must haves are klinks, f flies and Adams

Thats a difficult thing to quantify falsecast,I cant say I've noticed any leaning in preference towards gold over bronze from the trout to be honest. Thanks for your reply....

Parachute Adams. Probably my 'go to' fly when I haven't a clue what's happening. Which is usually most of the time

Superb flies by the way, Jimmy.

I'm a bit of a simple soul when it comes to still water dries. It's just a matter of colour and size variations of these two patterns..

For out and out dries..

For the point on a surface fished washing line, in conjunction with a sugar cube on the top dropper..

Favorite stillwater dries for the last few seasons have been Hopper(claret body and legs, magenta hackle, and the Anorexic Daddy, just hackle and legs.
This season I've done really well using Stan Headley's Crippled Midge, brilliant dry, would not be without a few now, seems a bit better for Brownies aswell.
The Crippled Midge is a variant of a parachute,so probaly not too far from Your Klinks.
Cheers Kev.

Thanks Matt...I tied those two with buzzers and lake olives in mind but I've came to the conclusion that our scaly friends find it hard to resist a fly with its back end dipping under the film, regardless of what they are feeding on 95% of the time.

Same here Party Boy, with a few 'bits' type things, and the Griff too. Then there's always the odd experiment knocking about somewhere in the box
