Default Softex

I was watching a You Tube video showing how to tie a baitfish pattern, and as an alternative to epoxy to cover the stick on eyes a product called Softex was recommended. It was stated this was lighter than epoxy, which would certainly be an advantage for our fry patterns. A Google search has revealed nothing- anyone heard of this? I also wondered if clear silicone would be feasible, but maybe it would take too long to cure.

Richard,

Softex is possibly still available in the USA but a ban was placed on importing it into the UK a few years ago - apparently it has carciogenic ingredients (spelling?)

Either stick with Epoxy, or try Liquid Fusion or Stormsure ...

Kind regards

Is Stormsure like Aquasure in use? I found the latter, when repairing my waders, tends to thin a little, and run before curing. Would you just use it as an adhesive, or build it up over the eyes ?
Thanks for your replies gentlemen.

Softex is basically liquid plastic.

Plastidip is for all intents and purposes the same thing. You can buy it here:

Plasti Dip - Flexible air dried coating, Brush Dip and Spray from £5

Buy the thinner as well.

I have and use both. Softex is thinner than the Plasti Dip out of the can. (Hence my suggestion to buy the thinner as well.)

I make quite a lot of fry and I've been using this material..'Loon - UV Knot Sense'..it is soft and is an epoxy, very easy to work with, using an ultra light as the curing agent.. Loon Outdoors Fishing Products - Fly Fishing Tackle Co UK ........AW

Thanks everyone. I'm going with the Plasti Dip as I can see several other uses for it! Looks amazing stuff.
