Default ParaDaddy

A rather annoying crane fly was buzzing around my room today as i was off work ill, so i thought that was time to tie a few up and stop feeling so sorry for meself.

Thought I would try something new (for me atleast) and tie a paradaddy with some varnished wings. I dont normally bother with wings on my daddy patterns as i think they work just as well without, hopefully this will prove it either way as i have tied some with and without.

Hook, Size 10 Kamasan B170?
Abdomen, Tan superfine dubbing
Thorax, Hares Ear
Wings, Varnished hen feathers
Legs, Knotted PT

Anyone know of a way to make the wings look a bit more translucent? Guess using a different wing material is probably the only way. Also with these larger flies how do you take macro images without just focusing on one area? I had to resort to just taking the photo from further away and then cropping it.

Comments and improvements are always welcome.

Dan

Cheers ST, I was hoping that the para would make it sit a bit lower, my go to daddy patterns are foam bodied things with "conventional" hackles and they ride high and dry for ages but some fussy trout seem to ignore them?!?

The post is simply black and white Antron which have been soaked in watershed and tied in together, I find the two-tone posts are easier to see, especially yellow and fluoro pink lol.

MadJoni - I was hoping you would like it, you are the one who inspired me to play about with wings, need to work up to winging size 20 dry flies lol

Why did you tie in 2 in the knotted legs facing forwards? Most of the daddy patterns I see just have all the legs pointing backwards?

Thanks
AL

Two main reasons first and probably the main one is it gives the fly a larger footprint on the surface so the trout are more likely to notice it in my opinion. Also when I have seen craneflies on the surface or just flying around they normally seem to have 2 legs protruding away from the other 4.

Just my observations and happy for then to be shot down in flames but the trout seem to like the legs that way as well
