Default Pedestal or clamp?

Hi all I'm looking at buying a snowbee fly-mate vice,
Not sure about the base, clamp or pedestal any views
one way or the other please. Also is it worth paying
the extra £10 for the ball joint version??

Cheers Colin.

Cheers Colin.
Bootneck aka Colin , depending on what you plan to do with it, wether your gonna be moving it from tying desk to another place whilst you travel, then a base version would be handy, as some tables may not have the access for you to clamp it to.

Or if it's gonna be static pretty much 99% of the time, then go with the clamp version.

Can't comment on the Ball Joint bit...

Always had clamp but latest vice pedestal and I wouldn't want clamp again. Doesn't matter if you always tie in the same place, pedestal is still best. The ability to quickly adjust the positioning of your vice at any time (and not just from side to side) without having to unscrew it is great.

Exactly the same for me as above and I agree 100%.

I have both and prefer a HEAVY pedestal base. Easier to move around and travel with.

Cheers all it looks like a pedestal is the way to go, I just need to
figure out if it's worth having the ball joint function

Regards

Colin.

I have the pedestal one with the ball joint its a good vice for the money but i would not get it with the ball joint if i was getting another one seems to work loose and if you put to much pressure on the thread when you are tying it seems to have a mind of its own.hope this helps!

Gotta say that the ball joint seems to me to be unused for the majority of the time and a nuisance the rest! Had mine for a couple of years now and for all the time I use it I say go without!

Current crabfat!
