Default hackle

When tying in the hackle for the teal and silver do you tie it in full then spread it either side of the hook or do you trim fibers from feather and tie it underneath?Thank you.

Horses50, when I shown how to tie this fly I was told to tie in the hackle fibre as A beard hackle like a diawl back.

Hope this helps
Al

In the larger sizes, I tie it in full like a collar and spread it down a bit before adding the wing. In smaller sizes, I do a beard like on a diawl bach. But then, I've seen books describing it both ways, and I have caught fish on neither, so probably best not to follow my advice. In fact, my whole post is entirely superfluous.

Move along now. Nothing to see here.
