Default Let the juices flow.

Inspired by a conversation (I'll call it that anyway) in another thread regarding creativity when fly tying I decided to show of 2 of my creations. More learning experiences really but hey. I tied these 3 weeks after I started getting into this hobby/obsession so really didn't know what I was going for. They are actually the same size as a dead crane fly I used to model them.

They are big ugly flies but I had fun making them. My first attempt at making a true imitation. Needless to say I adandoned these experiements in favour of learning some tried and tested patterns instead and trying to learn more about the principles of fly tying and how it relates to the fish.

Rizzla Daddy MK I

Hook: Long shank

Tail: Squirrel Tail hairs

Body: 8/0 Brown Uni-thread

Thorax: Seals fur dubbing dark olive

Wing: Plastic from Rizzla filter tips twisted then crushed in a vice to create viens and cut to shape

Legs: Knotted pheasant tail.

Flaws: Wings fell off after a few casts due to weak plastic.

Rizzla Daddy MK II

Extended body: Deer hair wrapped with brown thread.

Thorax: Deer Hair coloured with metallic green nail varnish.

Wing: Plastic from veniard package crushed to vein and rubbed with green metallic nail varnish to add iridescence

Legs: Knotted pheasant tail.

Weaknesses:A brute to cast but actually sat nicely on the water and the wings held. Looked like the real thing. Unfortunatly a helpful tree made sure I only got 10 or so casts of it. I did get a fish to rise to it but my strike was far to early.

great looking for sure...here is a tip...try making the wings out of swiss straw, the colour I use is cream..or..try cellos, made wings out of that and even after a couple of fish, they didn't fall off..........AW
