Default Big Red

Anyone got a pattern for the "big red". I know what it is basically and found a Youtube video but I had believed the Klink style hackle was meant to be pulled forward, which it was not in the video I found ?

Love the Chinook, Martin

Aren't you supposed to pull the hackle or post forward, in some fashion - that was the bit I was unsure of ?

Thanks

Charlie

Hi Charlie,

I've had a couple of successful days with this fly,

Stan did an article on crippled midges in T&S that shows technique, I'll send it to you when I'm back from Ireland.

Essentially you tie a shipmans but stop at the thorax and leave the forward facing Antron long, so that you can lift it up as a post and add a hackle, you then finish dubbing thorax and pull the Antron forward, tie down and whip finish. You then trim as per Shipman's.

I caught on Big Red's bought from Iain Barr, they are one of the few flies in my box that I bought and have confidence.

I seem to remember a Chew dry tied by Bill Latham called the Big Red , is it similar?

I'm sure one of the Chew regulars on here will know.
