Perhaps the wing and tail are slightly to long. The wing could possibly stand a little higher. Easy do with a few swoops under it when finishing. Otherwise ok.
Definately on the right track-good effort, well done.

Hi Chris...say isn't there a guide line stating that the tail is as long as the shaft of the hook, and the wing can either be a bit higher or lay like a spey fly???..........maybe I'm confused..

Click the image to open in full size...another who seems to read into things..never said anything about a rule book of any kind, but among many tiers around the world and not only in the UK, I believe it has been taken for granted as to what I wrote above, but then again these world tiers may be not from your generation.........AW

I did not read into anything or intend to be rude, ignorant or disrespectful. Your comment made me think that I would love to see a proper rule book, (on tying) nothing more or less. I am new to alot of this and just want simple clear cut rules to follow so that I do not look like a fool.

there is no rules in fly tying mate, alot of tyers go by the body of the hook the (shank) as a measure of the the tail and wing on wets and usualy the length of the hook for dry wings and tails and so,on
unless your fishing a comp in the U.K then you need to tye to regulations

and its called a shank not a shaft A.W
what have you been watching

You will never look like a fool to anyone, me included for tying flies comes from an enormous imagination that suddenly grabs you hard and with all your effort, you manage to create a fly that in your opinion will and probably does fool those sought after fish of your dreams...there is only one rule to follow if you want to tie flies...and that rule is simple..

"just enjoy Ur creativity and have fun fooling those unpredictable fish of choice"

didn't see this part...Shank to me is a knife..slang used in the prisons..Shaft is something I say out of respect to that great cop in the States..."Shaft!"....lol..no racism in this pun.
