Default Am I being stupid?

Hi there,

Just received this vice off eBay earlier today and am now trying to set it up. Everything seems to be in order except I can't figure out the mechanism for opening the jaws of the vice. I feel like I'm going to break it if I try and pull this lever any harder.

See image attached.

Thanks in advance!

It should open by placing the palm of your hand on top of the brass section and wrap your fingers round the lever and squeeze it towards you/the brass section, hope this makes sense.

as the last post, you squeeze it with your palm on top, dam good vice for starters but a little strength is needed to open the jaws, i love mine and use it for the bigger flies and for holding old flies for stripping.

Not stupid, no. That's the vice I bought too and it did take me a few puzzled moments to figure out how on earth it worked!
