What are you tying mate? Assuming (rightly or wrongly) that you are tying salmon patterns then i do this. I sometimes tie my stoats tails with arctic fox for a wing. Nothing wrong with mixing things up a bit.

nope....fox is softer and longer

We will have to agree to disagree arcticwolf. I think the addition of arctic fox can add a bit more movement to traditional patterns. Something a bit different can sometimes make a difference.

I would also say that one of the wonderful things about tying is that there are no rules.

I was thinking the same as you paul,a bit more movement in the water.I am tying flies for sea trout so i think i will tie the same pattern but use arctic fox on some and some with squirrel i will let you know if it makes any difference on catch,assuming i can catch them lol

For the smaller flies commonly used in Sea Trout fishing, use the Arctic Fox body fur, not the tail fur.
